What Glass Egg's typical working hours? How many days per week do your artists work?
We work from 9 AM to 6 PM with a one-hour lunch break, from Monday to Friday, so around 40 hours per week.
Do your key employees speak English?
All of our senior managers, producers and technical staff speak, read and write English fluently. Most of our artists have very limited English skills.
How is your management structure arranged? Do you have lead artists, project managers, etc?
Project management is handled by our producer. The producer is responsible for the timeliness and quality of every delivery. The producer has two key resources: the technical manager and the art director. The technical manager performs all technical checks to make sure the work conforms to the specifications of the client. He also writes tools and plugins to systematically assist the production. The art director is responsible for ensuring the art quality is of deliverable level.
Do you have any objections to learning and using a proprietary toolset?
No objections. In fact we regularly create our own tool sets to support the art production by improving productivity and maintaining high-quality service.
What 3D software do you use?
Our artists are fully fluent in every aspect of 3DSMAX, Maya, Zbrush and Substance.
How long have you been in business?
The current production team began working together in 1995 as the Vietnamese subsidiary of a San Francisco-based interactive company. Then in 1999 the team split from the US company to form Glass Egg, so more than 18 years.
How much of that time has been spent in game-specific outsourcing?
Game outsourcing has been the company's core business from the very beginning.
What is the capacity of your company?
We currently have 220 3D artists. We have established training collaborations with the College of Fine Arts of Ho Chi Minh City and other multimedia training centers around the country. These training programs allow us to grow by five to ten artists per month if we need to.
How much of your business is dedicated to artwork, animation, programming, etc?
Approximately 90% is artwork, 10% animation.
How would you describe your office and working environment?
Glass Egg's physical environment is on par with any game company in the US or UK. In terms of our corporate culture, we place a strong emphasis on open and collegial communications; and to completing work to impeccable standards and achieving complete client satisfaction rather than adhering to a strict set of rules. We believe that our people are ultimately our most valuable resource. We value the insights and ideas of everyone on our production teams, regardless of their experience or background. We value the diversity of people and their unique perspectives while at the same time ensuring that decisions are made and the work gets done.
